I was extremely disappointed to open the sports section of the newspaper last week to find a headline boldly proclaiming the error of a student-athlete. Every year, student-athletes are reminded by the athletic director that we are held to a high standard on campus. Therefore, I am not attempting to defend any poor decisions made […]

With the WIAC Championships just a couple of weeks away, the UW-Platteville’s men’s and women’s track teams are trying hard to maintain the momentum they have going.
“We’re kind of right where we need to be,’ head coach Jim Nickasch said. “The men look really good for the conference meet because we’re a little bit deeper […]

Students, be advised: the Exponent reports and editorializes on hearsay and conjecture, and is more concerned with passing judgment on students’ free expression than covering the real issues of this student governance election.
The posters in question were neither misleading nor false, as so reported in last week’s edition of our student news source, the […]

Media Technology Services; Department brings technological aid from students to UW-P

By Jeremy Hach • Apr 17th, 2008 • Category: Features, Lead Story

Many students pass by the Pioneer Tower, or venture into Grant County’s tallest building without ever knowing what goes on on the eighth floor. Some students take distance education classes or do video projects on the computers in the Hempel Collaboratory. Many more have class in the several technology classrooms on campus, but who maintains […]

Olympics time for international unity, not division

By Andrew Brunner • Apr 17th, 2008 • Category: Lead Story, Opinions

In March Tibetans hosted a weeklong protest what they see as a Chinese occupation of their country. In response, China violently acted against the protesters, burning buildings and even killing protesters. In my opinion these actions by the Chinese government were deplorable.
A month later the Olympic torch has arrived in the United States and protesters […]

School has no place in restricting rights

By Randall Stricklin • Apr 10th, 2008 • Category: Lead Story, Opinions

The rights given to us by the Bill of Rights are some of the most fundamental building blocks upon which this nation builds its idea of liberty. This makes it all the more alarming when those rights are stripped from our citizens. Unfortunately such was the case recently in my hometown of Tomah, at the […]

By Andrew Brunner • Apr 10th, 2008 • Category: Features, Lead Story

Students who have problems managing their eating habits have three places to turn on campus. Student Health Services, Counseling Services and Dining Services each provide students with a different angle of care and together they hope they can shape up students’ health.
Vickie Dreessens, the administrative director of Student Health Services, said that students who are […]
