Permits required to park on streets surrounding residence halls
By Amanda Laurenzi • April 26, 2012 • Category: News, Top StoryStarting next year, parking in front of residence halls, including Rountree Commons, will be prohibited without a parking permit. The City of Platteville, not the University, owns the streets weaving between the residence halls.
The City of Platteville and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville are working together to issue these permits for next year.
Their goals are to increase revenue along with encouraging students not to bring their car to campus, according to Christina Curras, professor of civil engineering.
Instead of issuing a separate parking permit for the streets between the residence halls, the University is extending the use of the current parking permit to allow for cars to be parked on the street.
Anyone who violates the parking permit requirement will receive the same citation as any university parking violations.
City Council approved the proposal of the parking permits. It will be effective starting fall semester 2012.
