Sigma Pi is a fraternity that has been involved with promoting scholarships, encouraging chivalry, diffusing culture and developing character among its members.

Sigma Pi was founded on February 26, 1897 at Vincennes University of Indiana. The Delta Iota chapter was established at UW-Platteville on April 11, 1970 and has been going strong since the day they became a chapter.

Sigma Pi is an international, social fraternity with 14 active members and three junior actives. There are three chapters in Wisconsin, 118 active chapters internationally and an alumni base with more than 86,000 members.

Sigma Pi is busy with different philanthropy and fundraising events. Two events that they are actively involved in are: the Altruistic Campus Experience Project and the Sam Spady Foundation.

“The ACE Project is a way of giving back to campus,” said Justin Nelson, sophomore, psychology major. “We are going to be doing a pig roast and giving it to the non faculty members. It’s a way of saying thanks for letting us be on campus.”

The date for the next ACE Project is April 22, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. by Boebel Hall.

According to samspadyfoundation.org, “the mission of SAM Spady Foundation is to educate parents and students on the dangers of alcohol, specifically high risk consumptions and the signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning.”

Other philanthropy and fundraising events these men are involved in include: Highway clean up, Lake Monona 20K Marathon and Championship Games.

“My favorite event is anything involving philanthropy,” sophomore software engineering major Michael Brost said. “I came from a family that gives back and it’s instilled in me. It always feels good to give back to the community.”

Brost’s favorite part about being a member of Sigma Pi is “there are ways that Sigma Pi can help me out and there are ways I can give back to Sigma Pi.”

“Our strong sense of brotherhood and commitment to philanthropy,” senior business major Cory Conohan said. “I decided to join because I felt comfortable here. Everyone was very welcoming.” Conohan enjoys the lifelong friends and the incredible experience that he has made over the years with his dedication to Sigma Pi.

“Each guy brings something different to the chapter,” said Alex Peterson, senior history and political science major. “Each person has improved by accepting each other’s values.”

“Overall, as an active member of Sigma Pi, our brotherhood is so tight you become very close with all of the brothers,” said Matt Dublinski, senior mechanical engineering major. Dublinski’s favorite event is founder’s day because “It’s a way to reconnect and talk to other alumni that you haven’t seen in years,” Dublinski said. “You can pick up where you left off.”

“We have actives and alumni members that have been actively involved with student and Greek organizations, said Brost. “Our chapter has a positive experience and it’s a great way to prepare for your future.”

Alan Luckow, sophomore, manufacturing technology management major decided to join the fraternity because of the connection he made with other members. “They seemed to have good values that they stand by,” Luckow said. Luckow likes being able to learn life skills and having lifelong brotherhood.
