Fundamentals, hard work and motivation are the secret ingredients to Eric Frese’s coaching style. Frese is looking forward to heading into his fifth season as head coach for the UW-Platteville baseball team.

Formerly a part of the Clarke College coaching staff, Frese took the opportunity to coach in the WIAC. Frese said he knew how competitive the WIAC conference is and was excited to get the position.

Frese’s players seem to be responding well to his coaching style and they like the responsibility Frese puts on them as players.

Steve Bompkamp, senior business major and broadcasting minor, likes that the responsibility is put on him to come in everyday and get better and put the time and hard work into the sport.

“Coach Frese has a nack for picking up things that most coaches might miss as far as techniques, and is a firm believer in sticking with the fundamentals,” Bomkamp said.
Derrick Rice, senior outfielder, recognized how much of a motivator for the players coach Frese is.

“When he speaks, he speaks with a purpose and everyone listens,” Rice said. “[Everyone knows] that it will only make them a better player and well as a better person.”

Rice also likes that Frese is able to keep the team relaxed and loose during games while still being very focused and determine to win.

Coach Frese is looking forward to the upcoming season and will count on the upperclassman to step up and take on major leadership roles.

Frese could not imagine himself doing anything else with his life at the moment, than coaching for UW-P.

“I like to see these young men develop on and off the field and see them develop through out the four years, as well as seeing where they end up after college,” Frese says.

The only goal Frese has for the season is “to get my players to be better each and every day.”
