Greek Profile: FarmHouse values community
By Kayla Smith • February 18, 2010 • Category: FeaturesFaith, ambition, reverence, morality, honesty, obedience, unity, service and excellence are the words of wisdom for the FarmHouse fraternity.
FarmHouse has 18 members and is very active on and off campus. The fraternity participates in numerous events throughout the year such as Greek Week, Homecoming Week, as well as putting on some of their own events. Travis Hartman, sophomore animal science major, says his favorite event is couch sledding. The members attach skis to couches and sled down the hill behind the dorms.
Hartman really enjoys being a member of FarmHouse and, “enjoys making connections with other agriculture guys. I like having a brotherhood I can turn to not only now but also after graduation.”
Another member, Sam Richison, sophomore agriculture education major has had the opportunity to meet a lot of new people by joining the fraternity.
“It’s a great opportunity to get involved on campus and within the community,” Richison says. He also says that FarmHouse has given him many different networking connections that he knows will help in the future. Richison has also learned more about responsibility and people skills while being a member.
“I am very dedicated to interacting with community on all levels, and we really pride ourselves in community service,” said FarmHouse adviser Kris Mahoney.
Mahoney encourages all types of majors to join the fraternity because it is a great way to get involved and give to the community and campus.
“This fraternity is a great way to better yourself as an individual and help those in need,” Mahoney says.
A coming event that FarmHouse will be putting on is a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 25, where the proceeds of the breakfast go to Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life.
