The N-word was found in another UW-Platteville residence hall last week.

The racial slur was found on Oct. 27 in a bathroom in Melcher Hall, according to an e-mail sent out to the campus community Nov. 2 by interim Chancellor Carol Sue Butts. The e-mail came exactly one week after an Oct. 27 e-mail in regards to a similar incident that occurred in Porter Hall.

The e-mail reiterated much of the information in the Oct. 27 e-mail, using similar language.

Butts urged students in the e-mail to take steps to help support minorities who are targeted by hate speech.

“Please take this opportunity to let others know, especially students of color, that this act of racist graffiti offends you and has no place in our university community,” Butts said in the e-mail.

Butts also encourages anyone with information about the hate crime to inform residence hall staff, Dean of Students Rich Egley or campus police.
