UW-Platteville men’s soccer soars ahead in victory over Finlandia

Junior B.J. Gottschlich dribbled past Waldorf College during Sept. 21′s home game. The Pioneers improved to a 2-0-1 conference record and 7-4-2 overall.
The Pioneers double-digit victory in Michigan was the 11th time UW-P scored in double figures in 45 years, according to the Sports Information Web site.
Senior Mario Millonzi scored the opening goal just two minutes into the game. Millonzi scored again just three minutes later off an assist from sophomore Zach Wall.
The Pioneers kept possession during most of the game, firing 24 shots on goal in the first half against the Lions’ defense.
At the half, the Pioneers were holding the Lions at bay with a score of 7-0. Sophomore Brandon Chmiel had two back-to-back goals in the 36th minute and the 37th minute.
The Pioneers returned to the field with 11 shots on goal in the second half. Sophomore Matt Hernandez fired the first shot of the second half in the 62nd minute, followed by another goal just 30 seconds later by freshman Kurt Knolle.
Junior B.J. Gottschlich finished off the victory for the Pioneers by scoring eight minutes shy of the final whistle.
The Pioneers improved to a 7-4-2 overall record after their victory, and 2-0-1 in the conference.
UW-P will be on the road again against Carleton at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10.
