No students to be found at UW-Platteville chancellor-search forums
By Kyle Scherwinski • October 1, 2009 • Category: UncategorizedAside from committee members, seven faculty members and zero students attended the Sept. 23 Chancellor Search and Screen Open Forum in the Pioneer Student Center.
The Sept. 21 meeting had no participants other than committee members, said Joanne Wilson, general engineering professor and chair of the Chancellor Search and Screen Committee.
The committee has two student members, Quincy Bufkin and Amy Bell Kwallek, who will be involved in the nomination process for a new chancellor.
The committee selects a pool of 10 to 12 candidates, Wilson said. The pool is narrowed to five candidates who will be announced by mid-February.
Wilson said that the committee only selects the pool of candidates and then the final hiring decision is made by the UW System Board of Regents.
At the Sept. 23 forum, handouts were given to each attendee; one was a draft provided by the UW System of the Job Description/Position Announcement, and the other had three talking points regarding the selection of a chancellor. The questions were:
1. What is your vision for UW-Platteville? Name three initiatives that should be university priorities as we move forward.
2. Identify the characteristics/skills/qualities that are important for the next chancellor of UW-P to exhibit.
3. What changes and/or additions would you make to the draft of the position announcement?
The open forums will be held until Oct. 3. The forums are open to all students and faculty.
