Funeral services announced for former UW-P police chief, superintendent

Funeral services will be held later this week for two former UW-Platteville employees killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department, Michael Udelhofen, 59, and Laurel Skrede, 54, were riding their motorcycle on Hwy. 18 just west of Montfort when a tractor pulled out in front of them. Udelhofen struck the tractor, and both he and Skrede were thrown from the motorcycle. They died at the scene.

Udelhofen served as buildings and grounds superintendent at UW-P from 1980 to 2008. Skrede served as director of campus police from 1997 to 2008. The couple was engaged.

Udelhofen’s visitation will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville. Funeral services start at 7 p.m. at the church.

Visitation for Skrede will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and again at 10 a.m. Friday at Thorson-Reetz Funeral Home in Viroqua. Her funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
