Wetzel, faculty adviser to Campus Programming and Relations, is working on making a scrapbook for Markee. The scrapbook will be made up of pages signed by the members of a number of student organizations at UW-Platteville. Along with the signatures and notes from the students will be a picture of the organization as a group.

Wetzel said that Markee’s visionary leadership has been invaluable to Platteville’s campus and that it will be missed.

“He had the vision for the Tri-State Initiative,” Wetzel said.

Wetzel is impressed with the improvements to campus during Markee’s time at UW-P. Engineering Hall, Southwest Hall and Ullsvik Hall have all been projects under Chancellor Markee. “Alumni are just floored when they come back,”  Wetzel said.

New Student Senate President and Vice President, Eli Caywood and Cody Camacho, have had limited experience with Markee but are very impressed with the leadership qualities of the chancellor.

“We felt very encouraged by the guidance he gave us,”  Caywood said.
Camacho said he believes strongly in what Markee has done in his term as chancellor at UW-P as far as improvements and other ventures on campus.

“For me personally it’s helped with my retention here,” Camacho said.

Wetzel, Caywood and Camacho all have said they credit the fact that UW-P is Markee’s alma mater to his success here. Wetzel said that she strongly believes that with his familiarity with the campus and the community, Markee has instilled an “It’s a great day to be a Pioneer” attitude in all of the students and staff.

Over his 13 years as chancellor at UW-P, David Markee has made a brought about a lot of change, which Wetzel wants to celebrate with this scrapbook. While Markee is leaving, Wetzel is making an effort to make sure he is not forgotten.
