Letter to the Editor: Academic Adviser Award nominations
By Guest Column • May 7, 2009 • Category: Lead Story, Letters to the EditorAt this point, you have met with your academic adviser, and planned out your Fall semester. You are now on to final exams and the end of this semester. But wait! Take a moment to reflect on that adviser you went to see, time they took preparing for your visit, support and advice they give you semester after semester. If you feel your academic adviser is outstanding, take the time to nominate them for the UW-Platteville Outstanding Academic Adviser Award for 2009. Nominations are due by Friday, May 15.
Nominations for the award can come from students, colleagues or an academic adviser. Any faculty or academic staff member who serves as an academic adviser to students is eligible to receive the award.
The Outstanding Academic Adviser Award will be given to one faculty and staff member from each college, with three annual awards. Each Outstanding Academic Adviser will receive $500, a personal plaque and a place on the College Outstanding Academic Adviser Award Plaque. Nominees will be asked for a submission that addresses or describes their advising philosophy and related experiences, including the number of on- and off- campus advisees for whom they are responsible. Nominees also have the option of submitting a maximum of three letters of support from colleagues and/or students, with no more than two from students.
So before you head off to that study carrel to get ready for your final exam, make that nomination!
