Letter To The Editor: Clothing doesn’t define person
By Letter To The Editor • March 5, 2009 • Category: UncategorizedMy clothes do not define me. Personally, I’m more concerned with my performance in the classroom than whether or not the person sitting behind me thinks I’m a scrub. Furthermore, scoring high on an exam will impress my professors and show my respect for their class more than my “Abercrombie, Gap, or even Finish Line” clothing. I will openly admit that I often wear sweatpants to class, but let me also tell you that, among other things, I’m in the National Honors Society, I’m the vice-president of Pre-Med Society and I have just been nominated for Student Ambassadors. Wow, who would’ve thought that all of that success could have come from someone who wears SWEATPANTS to class? Give me a break. It’s frustrating and sad to know that there are those out there who are so superficial and quick to judge others based on their attire in an informal classroom setting. There is a time and place for professional attire, but let us as individuals govern our own success and determine what clothes are appropriate for a particular setting. It’s also very interesting to mention professionalism and respect for the professor when your own newspaper has the “doodlecartoons,” the comics where you submit the drawings from your notes during the lecture you’re supposed to be listening to. So please, let us continue wearing sweatpants to class so we can focus on the more important things in life. Besides, I think sweatpants are sexy.
