The UW-Platteville women’s basketball team is hard at work during practice for their season opener against Webster College which they won 95-84.

“It felt good to win the first game of the season,” senior forward Lisa Grantman said. “We all played really well together and it was a huge win for the team.”

UW-P took control of the first half of the game with a 50-38 lead going into half-time.

The Pioneers dominated the second half with the lead sliding below ten points just once. UW-P took an 18 point lead on Webster five times during the game.

“It felt great to win,” junior guard and forward Stacia Nemitz said. “The hard work paid off but we have our work cut out for us for the rest of the season. The game helped us look at things we need to improve on and things we can build off of.”

According to the UW-P Sports Information Web site, junior guard Charity Stotmeister had a career high of 23 points. Grantman followed with 14 points and Nemitz with 13. Sophomore center Ashley Callahan boxed out for eight rebounds and Grantman followed with five.

The Pioneers start shooting again at the Texas-Tyler Tournament Friday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.

“Texas and the rest of the semester will be a test to see how well we can play even being on the road for two months, but we can do it!” Nemitz said.
