Advising underway; Course registration opens Nov. 10
By Amy Bell Kwallek • November 6, 2008 • Category: FeaturesAdvising and registration time has arrived and often students find they’ve forgotten how to register, where to get their information and how to solve any issues regarding holds on their account. Registration for classes for the Spring 2008 semester opens on Nov. 10 for students with 115 credits or above and will continue to open for students to register based on credit count until Nov. 26. Every student will have until Jan. 26 to register online.
The process of advising and registration requires attention to detail and preparation.
“Understand what you need to graduate,” Helen Reynolds, coordinator of Advising and Career Exploration Services, said. “This means you need to read your catalog very carefully and take responsibility for learning about general education requirements as well as major, minor and emphasis [requirements].”
Students should be aware of several things when preparing to register including any charges that may still be on their university account which could prevent students from registering. Students are given a PIN, usually obtained at an advising session, that allows them to access their enrollment account to register.
“Students should plan ahead to meet with their academic adviser by scheduling an appointment before their registration appointment,” Registrar David Kieckhafer said.
Students should schedule an appointment one to two days before their registration time. Advising too early could result in classes being full before a student has a chance to register.
“Ask questions if you aren’t sure of something,” Reynolds said. “If your adviser doesn’t know the answer, go to your departmental office. Keep asking people until you find the answer.”
Once a student has registered for their classes, it is essential to double check that the classes they have selected were added. For more information visit uwplatt.edu/registrar.
