I was extremely disappointed to open the sports section of the newspaper last week to find a headline boldly proclaiming the error of a student-athlete. Every year, student-athletes are reminded by the athletic director that we are held to a high standard on campus. Therefore, I am not attempting to defend any poor decisions made by anyone.

However, in the same police report, there were two other incidents involving UW-Platteville students driving under the influence of alcohol. Why does the staff of the Exponent feel it necessary to announce the error of the student-athlete, with no further mention of the other four students who made the same mistake? I would not expect to see an article just because the student was active in FFA, Horticulture Club, the Humanities Society, Platteville Early Childhood Association or the Exponent!

Everyone makes bad choices sometimes, myself included, but it seems rather unfair to point out those made by some just because they are members of a certain group. Let’s see some more fair coverage of what’s happening on campus.
