IBRC travels to North Africa
By Amy Bell Kwallek • December 6, 2007 • Category: NewsStudents at UW-Platteville will have a new short study tour available to them for the summer of 2008. The International Business Resource Center is sponsoring the North Africa International Short
Study Tour that will encompass travel in the countries of Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco from June 9 to 25, 2008.
“The students who go on this trip will be able to learn about the culture, history and business of these developing countries,” Executive Director of the IBRC Louis Nzegwu said.
The trip is offered as a summer school course under the classification of BSAD 3750: North Africa Business Practices and Cultures and is worth three credits. Students will study the importance of global business strategy for business firms, cross-cultural differences and their impact on business and the basic concepts of global finance according to the course syllabus.
“On this trip students will see how people behave in other markets,” Nzegwu said. “Everyone sends their business to China but Africa will be next because of the opportunity to make more profit and its growing economy.”
The tour and course will be guided by Nzegwu and the IBRC will accept up to fifteen students.
“IBRC plans to support students financially depending on the number that apply,” Nzegwu said. “Support in the form of scholarship from the IBRC will depend on the financial need of the students applying.”
This trip is open to students of all majors, not just those in business.
“I am interested in the North Africa Trip because I love to travel,” Todd Degler, a graduate of UW-P, said. “I studied abroad in Australia last fall, and have been on four of Professor Waugh’s western field trips and I want to see different cultures.”
“One thing that helps bring peace in the world is trade. When you learn about these cultures and build business relationships, it brings peace to these areas of the world,” Nzegwu said.
IBRC has sponsored the spring break China short study tours in the past and is also planning a trip to West Africa in the Summer of 2009.
