CPR: Plenty of holiday events for students
By Peter Schmidtknecht • December 6, 2007 • Category: FeaturesThe holidays are here again, and Campus Programming and Relations wants to help UW-Platteville students get ready for the season.
Debbie Turpin, CPR event manager and senior public relations major, said that CPR has plenty of events in the upcoming holiday season.
On Dec. 5 students were able to tap into their artistic sides by attending a C.O.G. event, where they could make cards, ornaments, or gingerbread houses as gifts. The materials were supplied free of charge by CPR, but participants were asked to make a gift for residents of a local retirement home before they made their own.
“Students could come and make a cog and make something else to give to someone else,” Turpin said.
Students can participate in holiday drives such as blanket drives or food drives. She said that CPR has plenty of events planned for UW-P students to finish the rest of the semester, Turpin said.
“I really enjoy the holiday season, and it’s nice that CPR is doing something to help us students get ready for the busy holiday season ahead,” Brandon Brauer, senior business administration major, said.
At 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, CPR will host comedian Daniel Kinno at the Pioneer Crossing with free popcorn being served. At 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, the group will host Open
Mic Night in the Pioneer Student Center.
To wrap up the semester, CPR will host their Stress Free Zone in the Pioneer Involvement Center from Dec. 13 to Dec. 20. Free massages, puzzles, bubbles, coloring and games to help keep students free from stress and give students a break from the overwhelming finals week will be available.
“The holidays are a busy time for everyone,” Paige Theiler, junior physical education major, said. “It’s nice to have some stuff to get you ready for the holidays right before a busy finals week and end of the semester.”
