Welcome to college

College isn’t about proving yourself to those you meet, you befriend or who judge you incorrectly. It’s not up to you to prove them right or wrong. College isn’t about proving anything to anyone except yourself.

College isn’t about searching for love or begging for it around every corner. It’s not about how many people you’ve slept with or even about holding out for “the one.” College is about love finding you in
ways and places that you’d least expect it. It’s not about making love happen. It’s about letting love happen.

College isn’t just about working hard for that desired degree that will bring you the big bucks It’s not always about working till all hours of the night for that A and it’s also definitely not about putting off homework and failing. Besides all the things that you learn academically in college, it is a time for self discovery. College is about finding where you belong in the world, not getting lost in it.

College isn’t about planning your life out step-by-step, year-by-year. It’s not about knowing exactly what you want to do. Who ever knows exactly what they are going to do for the next 30 years of their life? College is about living every day minute by minute, second by second and not missing a single sound, touch, taste or sight within the moment. The future will come soon enough, the present only lasts a second.

College isn’t about drinking and partying every night and getting totally wasted and not remembering. What’s the point of making memories with friends just to be retold what happened the next morning as you puke all your money up? But then again, it’s not always about being a pristine citizen and not drinking and criticizing those that do. College is doing what you want with who you want, but also exhibiting some self control. Because memories aren’t made through alcohol; they are made through friends. And in the end you’ll remember the people you were with and not what you were drinking that night.

College is about life, love, friends, memories and finding yourself, all the while living with no regrets. So if you meet someone special, tell them how you feel. If you want to party, do it safely. If someone wants to help you, let them. If someone wants to judge you, forget them. The only person you need to please is yourself. And in the end, it’s very often the things you don’t do that you regret rather than those actions and bold moves that you so courageously take.
