Students, faculty pursue joy with InterVarsity

A free UW-Platteville-based Christian group is available for students on campus, and it’s not just for Christians.

InterVarsity is a nationwide organization that helps university students and faculty grow in their Christian faith.

“InterVarsity holds large group meetings every Thursday night for worship and teaching from the Bible,” Jack Borke, business and accounting faculty member and faculty adviser of InterVarsity, said.
InterVarsity sponsors many small groups for Bible learning, discussion, fellowship and non-prayer sessions.

“I joined InterVarsity during my freshman year, shortly after my first week at UW-P,” Eric Mich, mechanical engineer major Bible study co-leader, said. “By being involved with InterVarsity’s Quest and small-group Bible study, I experienced the unexplainable joy that I can only receive by actively pursuing God. This God-given joy is what kept my spirits up during Calculus 2.”

Borke said the three types of people who should get involved with InterVarsity are those who believe in Jesus Christ, want to learn about Jesus or feel a spiritual restlessness.

“I think people should join InterVarsity because it allows you to get closer to God and provides you with Christian friends that can encourage you in your faith,” Aaron Miller, member of InterVarsity, said. “Members are there to comfort you in times of crisis with prayer and advice.”

“It’s a great place to meet new people and develop your personal relationship with God, if you want to,” Alison Ross, member of InterVarsity, said.

Quest is held on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas B. Lundeen Lecture Hall More information is available at uwplatt.edu/org/intervarsity/.
