After an action-packed week, the Pioneer women’s volleyball team updated their record to 11-3 with a loss to UW-Oshkosh followed by a road victory over the Augustana Vikings.

In front of a crowd of 468 fans in the Williams Fieldhouse, the 19th ranked Pioneers battled the 11th ranked UW-Oshkosh Titans in a conference showdown on Sept. 20.

“It was fun, there were a lot more people than I thought would be there,” junior Kelly Lashinger said.

Despite the crowd, serving errors proved to be costly for the Pioneers.

“We gave them a lot of points on our missed serves,” Lashinger said.

The Pioneers fell to the Titans with close scores of 26-30, 30-19, 24-30 and 28-30.

Kelly Lashinger led the Pioneers with 48 assists while Rachel Chapman recorded 18 kills followed by Dana Alf with 16. Amy Renick and Chapman both recorded 15 digs on the night.

“As a whole we played very well, there were a lot of positive things,” head coach Deb Schulman said.

The Pioneers then traveled to the Carver PE Center to face the Augustana Vikings on Sept. 22. After five tough games, the Pioneers proved to be too much for the Vikings to handle with scores of 30-32, 30-20, 30-18, 26-30 and 15-7.

“We made little mistakes, but we pulled through,” said senior Dana Alf. Alf led the Pioneers at the net with a total of 21 kills in 32 attempts while only committing 3 errors.

According to Sports Information, Alf is ranked fifth in hitting percentage in NCAA III Women’s Volleyball.

Other top hitters for the Pioneers were Chapman, totaling 16 kills, and Lisa Bell, following with 12. Katie Deegan aided the Pioneers with 3 service aces and Laschinger dished out 53 assists on the night.

The Pioneers squared off with the UW-Whitewater Warhawks at Williams Fieldhouse on Sept. 27 with Fox Sports Network coverage. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Pioneers next action will take place on Sept. 29 and 30. They will be hosting Clarke, Lakeland, Cornell, Aurora and Elmhurst at the UW-Platteville Tournament.

The Pioneers will be facing Clarke in their first match at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.
