After being in office for four months on the Segregated University Fee Allocation Commission, President and Vice President Mark Fairchild and Beckie Schilling, respecively, resigned.

SUFAC held a meeting at the University North Room in the Pioneer Student Center on Sept. 21 where Fairchild and Schilling resigned from their positions in the organization.

“We were told by a small group of commissioners that we were unable to keep personal business out of SUFAC, and some advisers wanted to have a recall,” Fairchild said.

In their statements of resignation both Fairchild and Schilling stated that the advisers should go to the direct source of the problem to find a solution.

“People are going to have different agreements in a representative democracy, but the different agreements should be worked out,” Fairchild said.

“Mark and Beckie resigned themselves, they were not formally asked to leave,” SUFAC adviser Cathy Lauinger said.

Before serving as vice president of SUFAC, Schilling served as a College of Liberal Arts representative for one year.

“Student governance is very timely, and since that I will not be in it, I will focus more on my music, which is the most important thing to me,” Schilling said.

Fairchild served as an At Large member of SUFAC for a year before being voted on as president.

“Even though I am not involved with SUFAC I will still be involved with multiple music organizations and now I can devote more time to my schoolwork,” Fairchild said.

Even though Fairchild didn’t leave SUFAC under the circumstances that he wanted to, he still wished the best for his former members of SUFAC.

“I want to thank the other commissioners for the experience and wish them best of luck,” Fairchild said. “I would also like to thank Mick Viney for the guidance and experience that he brought everyday.”

SUFAC didn’t have a president or vice president under control when the budgets were due for student organizations, but that didn’t stop the process from ending.

“The budget process went as planned,” Lauinger said.

On Sept. 25 SUFAC internally appointed a new president, vice president and secretary. Former secretary Ryan O’ Connell was voted to be the president, while Lauren Lehr was appointed to be the vice president and Andy Rankin was appointed secretary.
