Comedy series returns
By Amy Bell Kwallek • September 28, 2007 • Category: FeaturesCampus Programming and Relations’ Standup Saturday Comedy Series comes into full swing with the second comedian of the year, Amy Anderson.
Anderson is an up-and-coming comedian, who has made appearances on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend and VH1’s Radio Tonga (A3Z), according to CPR’s event calendar. She also competed in California’s Funniest Female Competition where she came in fourth place. She has been touring clubs and colleges throughout the United States.
Last year, we got a lot of great reviews and decided to do the series again this year, Hanah Diebold, CPR event manager, said. CPR found Anderson on the National Association of Campus Activities comedian list and was the final comedian to be signed this year.
CPR usually chooses their comedians at the NACA convention where they can see performances by comedians, musicians and entertainers, Diebold said. There are regional and national conventions where students can go and sign acts for events on their campus.
Stand up Saturdays were definitely our best-attended series of events last year, filling up the Crossing on most occasions, Brittany Tillman, former CPR event manager, said.
Last year’s attendance was usually between 300 and 325, Diebold said. We’re hoping for even larger numbers this year as more students learn about these events.
Standup Saturdays are a good way for the students to get out and do something on a Saturday night for free, Ali Karbassi, CPR event manager, said. ” These events show that Platteville isn’t a suitcase college, that there’s something for students to do on campus.”
Other comedians scheduled to perform in this series include Rob Paravonnian, Pete Holmes and Retta. For more information on the other comedians in the series and on other CPR events you can visit CPR’s Web site at reslife.saf.uwplatt.edu/cpr.
Anderson will be performing from 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Pioneer Crossing.
